Comparing Le Jette, the short, and the 12 monkeys, the full length movie

-La Jette is a short film that features a survivor of ww3 was sent back to before the war started, in order to save humanity 

- The man is selected because he has a valued memory from his childhood, the face of a woman on the pier 

- memory is linked to another key event, the child appeared to witness a man’s death, while also seeing the face of the woman. 

- Both protagonists in la Jette and 12 monkeys, defies the odds by traveling back and forth through time, but with no control. The only thing that drives them are past memories. 

- La Jette uses editing techniques such as traditional shots, reverse shots, crossfades, and faded ins and outs. These techniques amplify the dreamlike reflective ambience. 

- the audio is subtle compared to the visual side, but it puts a spotlight or emphasizes the visual. Such as the racing heartbeat in more grueling scenes, or a romantic harp/violin playing behind romantic visuals. 

- In the 12 monkeys, the plot is surrounded by a mystery, which has to be solved. Which is why he is sent back in time, in order to find clues and stop the outbreak.

  • The setting is in Paris, which is facing aftereffects from World War 3.
