Hey blog, I'm back again. This is editing day 2, last blog I did the voice-over. This blog, I will be doing the sound effects, that means making them from scratch and inserting them onto the clips. The first scene I wanted to work on was the footsteps in scene 8. They weren't as loud as I originally wanted them to be, so my solution was to go outside on the sidewalk and put shoes on my hands and act as if I was walking. Now I will admit it was a little funny looking so holding back a giggle was a must, but I just placed the phone on the ground and acted like I was walking but with shoes on my hands so I could have better control. I’d say this was an 8 out of 10 idea, but only because on the first attempt I did put too much force and it sounded like bigfoot was walking up.
The second scene i wanted to enhance the sound for was scene 10. I wanted the kickball to have more sound, originally it sounded almost dead silent. There was no sound of kicking, or the ball moving quickly over the grass so I wanted to recreate that sound. I took chair and the kickball outside. The chair was used to hold my phone at the very edge of the seat so it could capture all the sound. Then I took the kickball and rubbed it all over the grass, and due to the rubber material of the ball instead of it being a smooth plastic, it worked great. I did it on the grass for most of the time, then towards the end I rubbed it on the edge of the sidewalk, since that's where it hits the actor.
The next scenes I wanted to work on were scenes 22 and 28. Those are the scenes where David presses the buttons to roll down the window and starting the engine. I wanted the sounds to be there but faint. All I had to do was get the microphone recorder close to the radio buttons and turn them down, so the clicks could be heard. I did the same thing for the windows, capturing the sound of them rolling up. For turning back on the engine, I tapped the button with my nail, instead of pressing it down, so I could trim it down and align it with the video.
