Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full length movie

 SHORT FILM

  • -Post apocalyptic world with animated ragdolls left behind

  • -Drama happens slightly before the 2 minute mark

  • -Grey, browns, yellows, green tones. Emphasizes the deserted world around them

  • -One without 2 eyes (5) tries to push back his friend with 2 eyes (9). Very protective

  • -No words throughout the film just gestures and noises to communicate and represent noise and mood. The lack of dialogue makes the viewer have to rely on visuals and sound, it also makes the film more mysterious

  • -9 witnesses the monster killing 5, who was trying to protect him.

  • -Very minimal character interaction between 5 and 9.

  • -9 runs away and escapes the monster at the 3 minute mark.

  • -Monster is defeated at the 6 minute mark due to 9’s quick thinking

  • -The ending leaves the viewer questioning things due to the arrival of holographic characters that have been discovered by connecting the 2 green signals and accidently dropping them.

  • -7 minutes long

  • -Focuses on 9’s journey on surviving in his world.

  • -The animation quality is a rougher compared to the quality you would see in a full length film.

  • -Dark lighting

FULL FILM

-introduces a backstory of how the world ended and how the apocalypse began

- Deeper character developments and arcs. Introduces several new characters that the short film didn't include.

- animation quality is more polished a less rough/grainy. Good GCI.

- The film feels brighter than the short film. But is also still holds that mysterious/apotolipict tone

- The sounds are great, the sounds match the area they are walking on/the objects they interact with.

- A clear beginning, middle and end.

- Slower paced movie development because the film is 1 hour 20 minutes compared to the short film which is 7 minutes

- The is dialogue from some of the characters such as the guy in the beginning who interacts with 9 and discovers he can’t speak, until he fixes his voice box.

- There are 9 total characters who are later known as “stichpunks”. They each have a number assigned to them. Each number represents a different human emotion. For example 9  is intelligent and sincere but also very curious. While 5 is caring and nurturing which is why we know why he tries to protect 9 in the short film.
