Production Blog: First Day Filming!

Today is the day everything gets hectic, aka the day I start filming for my short film. I'm very excited to start filming due to the time away since I've last filmed, which was sometime last year. In the buffering zone I have been filming little daily vlogs of my friends and I, but nothing as serious as this. My crew is prepared for this task we are about to put in action, we have high hopes that our short film will turn out amazing.

Today we are filming scenes 1 through 3. Today is a lighter day compared our other film days we have planned, since I have other movie stuff to work on. These scenes start the movie off, so we are focusing on lighting, location and time today since that's the main focus of these 3 scenes. My co-star won't be present in the cameras view, however she will be behind the scenes helping out with the production. She will be holding the camera and placing them in the correct angles if the tripod won't be holding the camera. During those times where the tripod is is holding the camera, she will be keeping track of time so we can make sure it doesn't get to dark for our film in the beginning of the movie, since it take place in the afternoon. Plus she will also be reading over her lines once again.

I had a day off school today, so I had the perfect lighting to film scenes 1 through 3. Scene 1 is an establishing shot of Harper's (character) bedroom before it was re-arranged. There is a window in the room so the sunlight will seep through while also giving the room a sharp clean look. This scene wasn't hard to film because of my prior experience with establishing shots. I did have to pick up the occasional clutter that accumulated in my room over the past few days, but that was it.

The second scene is a birds eye view of Harper walking down the sidewalk, then it goes into a tracking shot. This scene was a little difficult to film since my co-star had to hold her arms so high up, even with the selfie stick, her arms was burning and shaking like no ever. With her arms being difficult it kept making the camera sway and shake, therefore we had to keep reshooting the scene. It took us 3 takes before we were able to move onto scene 3. Scene 3 was the last scene that we were filming today, and it only took us 2 takes, the first one was a blooper because the tripod fell, but other than that it was an easy process.
