Today I will only be doing “testing”, I’ll be filming but none of it will be included in the short film. However, it will be very beneficial to my short film. Today will be a rehearsal day since my cast members are here and will test our camera shots and angles so things will go somewhat smooth during our actual film day. I gathered all of the cast, gathered our technology and lights, and we got to work!
First, we began by rehearsing our lines. I’ve been practicing my lines since I wrote the script for a few days so I can get the gist of it. On the other hand, this is my sister aka my co actress hasn't seen her lines since she has been busy with her school work. So today was a much-needed day for both of us. We started off with the first 3 scenes worth of lines, and we also timed ourselves so we could stay on pace and not speak too fast or too slow. We did this a few times with the paper, waited 3 minutes and repeated again but without the paper this time. We repeated this until we were able to read the lines without the paper with longer wait periods in between. We continued this as a set for every 3 scenes.
During this process, it took a little while for us to adjust. Mainly because my sister kept laughing therefore making me laugh in the process. After a while I had to give her, a pep talk that while we can have fun with this project, there are moments when we need to be serious, and this is one of them. That seemed to get us into check, and we went through the rest of our lines like a breeze. After we finished our lines, we set up the camera on the tripod to see what would fit into the frame and how we would need to position ourself. During this we also had to keep in mind to leave somewhat of an open space for the titles. I also had her film me in the dark with and without the ring light to see what would look better for during the darker scenes, like when Harper checks the power box.
